What's all the Hub-bub?
One of the places you'll visit on Steamworks Island is what we call the Hub. It's a sight to see! A rickety tower, a massive drawbridge, and pot-bellied steam stoves powering everything. Safe to say that you've never seen anything like the Hub before.

Er, at least, you won't have seen anything like it. To start with, this marvel of modern engineering just looked like this:

Yes, it's hard to see what all the hubbub is about -- yet. Just wait until you see how this one develops!

THEN:

The Hub takes shape
The Hub started life as all of Poptropica does, as a simple idea and a sketch. Before long, we take that idea and turn it into reality. But did you know how many different revisions a single scene takes before it gets the Poptropica stamp of approval?

At first glance, this might look like a well developed scene.

But look a little more closely. Why is almost everything the same color? Why does it all look so flat? And what the heck is that blue thing on the right, anyway?

No, the Hub isn't done yet. Not even close.

Filling in the Hub
Time for a pop quiz: Can you tell the difference between the picture we posted yesterday and the one below?

Most of the background elements still look the same as they did yesterday: flat and monochromatic. We're adding more detail to the Hub on Steamworks Island. We've colored in some of the more important foreground objects. They really pop off your screen!

That doorway in the upper-lefthand side of the screen looks mighty intriguing, wouldn't you say?

However, I regret to inform you that I am required to update you members about the newest PCB post: A Steamworks surprise is coming up for you members. Ugh, there. I said it. Now that that's out of the way, we can have a good time just as promised. Let's go!

Happy hundredth post to me, happy hundredth post to me! (I would keep singing, but I'd rather not embarrass myself) Yes, it's true. I must share my special post with a new PCB post, but to what better use should it be put?

Sink your teeth into these shark costumes
Have you had a chance to try out the new Hammerhead Shark costume in the Poptropica Store? I thought about it, but I couldn't bear to look at myself in the mirror. What would my shark parents think?

Don't forget, there are lots more neat ways to dress up like your favorite ocean predator in Poptropica. Also available in the store is this mean-looking Tiger Shark:

You don't need credits for all the fishy fun. On Shark Tooth Island, a street vendor will give you this snazzy dorsal fin, free of charge!

And, of course, you can always visit the lowest level of the Shark Museum on Shark Tooth Island and costumize the most handsome museum employee around.

All this neat shark stuff -- it's almost enough to get me to crack a smile! Almost.

Hmm, giant carnivorous plant, hammerhead shark. POPTROPICA WILL NEVER BE SAFE AGAIN!!!! Mm, ahem. Sorry about that. Anyway, here are the two newest posts:

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...
I hope everyone is having a fun summer, while they squish red crabs on the beach. If you want to surprise your friends, try out the Hammerhead costume. It comes with a warm, limp fish.

Steamworks monster animation test
Now that the we've decided what this plant monster should look like on the new Poptropica Island, Steamworks Island, the next step is to decide how the monster should move. We put together a quick and dirty animation test:

(Here, a photo of the animation test should be put up, but there wasn't a picture on the Creators' Blog [there was a space for it, but it seems like there was a problem] so I'll try to put up the picture as soon as possible)

Bet you wouldn't want to run into that thing in a dark alley!

All this has taken us nearly to the completion of a plant monster for Steamworks Island. We may still decide to change the monter's behavior, or some aspects of its appearance. After a few final touches, we'll put it all together -- but you'll have to wait until Steamworks Island launches to see it!

Yes, it's finally here- the completed bola! Careful now, don't let it get too close. It has been known to rip one's limbs off. Anyway. Please observe this presentation of the bola:

Plant monster, attack!
We've got a pretty scary looking monster at this point, but what good is a monster if it can't attack? This monster can swing its seed pods around from its head, before throwing them at you at high speed.

Looks like you're pretty small next to this thing, doesn't it? That's not all -- we haven't even seen the plant monster in motion yet.

After settling on a sketch we liked, it was time for to give a little more life to the plant monster that will be menacing players on Steamworks Island.

Below are two approaches to the plant monster. Can you spot the differences between them?

Little details, like the color of the planter, and big ones, like the plant's eye, can make a big difference in the monster's appearance.

The next step: animation test!

Yesterday, you saw some of the earliest ideas for the plant monsters that will appear on the next Poptropica island, Steamworks Island. This one seemed appropriately icky.

It's still no more than a sketch -- just an outline of an idea. But we're already thinking about how the plant will look when it's colored and detailed, and how it will move. The next step is to take this sketch and Poptropica-ize it!

Evolution of a Steamworks Island monster
For Steamworks Island, the we'll pit you against a variety of mutated plant monsters. But how did we make the creepiest, crawliest, ickiest plant monsters around?

We started by brainstorming.

These are just some of the sketches we drew to help us visualize what our monstrous creations would look like. Not all of the sketches will make it into the final product -- in fact, most won't -- but this allows us to try out different ideas. Then we'll take the very best concepts and work them into Poptropica.

With all the excitement over Skullduggery Island, Steamworks Island, and every new Poptropica update, not to mention my full time job as an agent, I decided it was definetely time for a vacation. Here are some pictures I took:

On the last day of my trip, I enjoy the gorgeous scenery of Counterfeit Island and learn about some interesting paintings inside the museum.

Although no official dates have yet been announced, the PCB has assured us the island is "coming soon".

NEW POSTS:

Celebrate with some powerful party favors.
Here are three items in the store to pump some power into your party.

The Atomic Power item will generate a lot of atomic energy for you and those who happen to be near you when you punch the power button (space bar.)

The fireworks are another new item in the store. Just launch them and watch the fireworks shower above. I recommend using them on top of a tall building on Spy Island, or at the Pirate Outpost. Just try not to light them too close to the gun powder on Pirate Outpost. We don't want to have to release an injured victim outfit in the store.

And last, don't forget those Silly Streams. Always fun for spraying at friends, and innocent mimes that are often too easy of a target.

Calm Starfish backed away slowly, her hands in the air. Captain Crawfish and his crew glared at her, grinning their evil pirate grins and flashing golden teeth. "And now-" Crawfish growled, but suddenly his ship began to shudder and quake, and a shower of cannonballs rained down behind them. Crawfish and Co. sprinted toward the back of the island. Calm, sore and exhausted from the two hours of digging for treasure, turned to run as well. Then the ship sunk to the murky depths of the Poptropican sea, and the Phoenix Warbird took its place. "I told you I would sink Captain Crawfish!" Tex* the cabin boy exclaimed. (*I named him that. There are no official names for any crew member) Calm and the rest of the crew lugged the treasure chest onto the deck, as Crawfish shouted, "You can't just leave me here!" Calm smiled as she and her new friends sailed off into the sunset towards Fort Ridley.

Captain Crawfish was never to be seen again, thanks to me, the greatest sailor who ever lived! (Well, you know, aside from the millions of other kids who have won this island, LOL) In this island, I learned the value of patience, trust, courage, and loyalty. It was one of the best islands yet.
And I am still afraid of pirates.

While sailing the Poptropica seas in attempt to obtain 1,000,000 doubloons, I came across this strange island. I stopped, took a picture, and rested. Unfortunately, my shipmates and I were suddenly attacked by no other than Captain Crawfish! It was a miracle we made it out alive. Could this island possibly be Skullduggery Island itself?

Before I get started with the four PCB posts I need to cover, I'd like to say thank you to Bleah Brian, for following the Post. Sorry, you aren't the first, *wink wink* PJ. Mythology Island: Best. Island. EVER!!!!! I finished it in one day! It was so incredibly awesome, I can't believe how awesome it was!

Anyway, I don't believe in Greek mythology, but I dig the Percy Jackson books-best series I've ever read-and I knew every single god there was. And I met Hercules and battled Zeus! Only too bad Herc got turned to stone, and the big guy turned out to be evil, but whatever. Also, there's proof that Skullduggery is fah real. Check out the Poptropica website and select the info link. Build your own ship? Assemble your own crew? "Biggest Poptropica quest yet"? Sounds pretty cool to me. Even though pirates are scary.

Could it be??? After scrolling through a new PHB post, I found a part about new CB polls. The polls are:

Still stuck on this island, I found some people playing a game with small sliding pucks. I don't think the mime is going to win this one.

I don't really get shuffle boarding. Seriously. No offense at all to the awesome Creators, but all you do is push a puck around on concrete with a stick. I could never play it. *Shrugs* Anyway, it looks like Reality TV will contain a bunch of little mini games. Cool! *Claps twice and disappears into a cloud of pink smoke*

Getting Boar-ed?
As a hermit I try to avoid meeting people but sometimes it's hard to find a place to be alone. When I reached this island in the middle of the ocean, I figured I was the only person around for miles. I soon realized this place is full of some of the craziest people I've ever seen! Why would anyone run around with a jar of water on their head? It seems dangerous, especially when there's an angry boar out to get you. I'm going to monitor the situation and see what I can find out.

Counterfeit Island-Awesome!

As you can see, "awesome" is one of Incredible's and my favorite words! I just finished Counterfeit Island in one sitting using early access. Unfortunately, these passes are a steep price of 500 credits. My Calm Starfish account will have to wait until 1/4/10 when the island comes out for real before playing, because that account does not have enough credits. I had to use another account of mine, Friendly Goose, to get the early access. It was worth it! Probably the most awesome island of all! If any of you need help with the island I would be more than happy to give you a hand.

From a recent Counterfeit Island update: Comic Kid has provided us with a picture of a cute little cottage. Since I don't have a photo myself, here is a description. It's made up of tan stone, a brown roof, and completed with a medieval style door. Clearly another site from the New Island! BTW, I believe it is safe to call the New Island "Counterfeit Island" now. All of the Creators' Blog posts have called the island that so far. Back to the cottage. Wow, whoever lives in that little house is pretty lucky! On the outskirts of town, cozy and isolated. The perfect secluded getaway. It also brings us a mystery... Who lives in that cottage? Does anyone live there? If so, what will they have to do with the newest island quest?

Reality TV... Gone for good?

Check out the new poll, What do you think the next island will be? It is a mystery to me whether Reality TV is just a forgotten concept or if it will be released to the Poptropican public. :-I There have been sightings of new islands such as Counterfeit Island and French Island (which is possibly the same as Counterfeit) on the Creators' blog lately. But whatever choice the Creators make, I'm sure it will be a good one and we will enjoy it!

Without being caught by the C.D.A, you must help the monster Mike find the kid and get her out of the factory before the C.D.A! New Costumes+New Gadgets=New Halloween Fun!

As Halloween draws nearer, the Creators have not failed to bring us new items from the store to celebrate this great holiday. To "get this party started", (quoted from the Creators' Blog) the Creators have added Silly Streamers and the Follower Spook Pack. The costumes include the Werewolf, for boys and girls, the Sea Monster, and what looks like a female vampire. If this is so, I don't know about a male vampire. The Ghouls' Gala calls you- so get over there! (But go shopping first! LOL ;-b)

The Bride of Frankenstein

Like I promised earlier today, I put a picture of my Poptropican as the Bride of Frankenstein up on the blog. The Creators did somewhat same thing on their blog, blog.poptropica.com. Check it out sometime! They have made their faces green in the little captions that they use to sign the posts, and added two pumpkins to the caption at the top that says Poptropica Creators' Blog. Also there is a faint orange border around the word "Poptropica". Way to show your Halloween spirit, Creators!

Halloween is in the air!

I know that Halloween is close at hand, and I am super-excited! I am planning to have a party so I will be pretty busy and I might not be posting that often for a while. I'm also working on getting a pic of my Poptropican in her Halloween costume (the Bride of Frankenstein) on the Post in honor of this spooky holiday and to get everyone into Halloween spirit!

Finally! Using the Poptropica Avatar Studio, I have managed to put a little color into the Post. This picture gave me a great deal of trouble to put up(mostly because I kept cropping it wrong),but it definitely was worth it! I'd like to thank the Poptropica Help Blog for telling me how to post this picture. If you haven't already noticed, the picture is of my Poptropica character and hopefully I may put up an image of Incredible too.

I've tried to put pics on the Post before but there was something wrong with my picture file I guess. Two New Costumes(Again)!

Yep, there are some new costumes! The Creators are not only GENIUSES, but they give so much to keep Poptropica as awesome as it is. Let's see, looks like a Daredevil, complete with red white and blue helmet and cape, and a girl with a flaming skull shirt and a a black belt and hat. A very interesting idea. :-o. By the way, in case you haven't noticed already, my style is smiley faces! But hurry up and get on Poptropica already!

The Time Freeze and The Follower

If any of you guys have heard of the Time Freeze and the Follower and are psyched to give it a try, then it's your lucky day! The two gadgets are out and ready. For those of you who don't know what these are, then here you go. Time Freeze does just as it's name implies-press the space bar while holding it and time freezes around you! The Follower gives you a friend to keep with you and take care of your following needs LOL :-D. Well? What are you waiting for? Hop in your blimp and go buy the newest Poptropica items!

Poptropica has just added an awesome new feature- the Poptropica Avatar Studio! All you do is type your username into the box, and POOF! There's your character, and you are able to crop your character however you like. Also, you can send your Poptropican to friends and post it to your blog and/or website. Poptropica has done it again! Now I've gotta head down to the Poptropica Avatar Studio, so seeya around!
